Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) Judo Club Information

Welcome to HTIC Judo Club!  The HTIC Judo club is open to everyone who would love to learn and practice the Art and Sport of Judo for self-defense, fitness, recreation, competition as well as life-long Judo learning activities and wellness.

Judo is an official Olympic sport and the second most widely practiced sport in the world (first is soccer) and number one practice martial art sport.  Judo can be enjoyed at all levels.  Beginners are taught the basic fundamentals of Throwing Techniques, Groundwork Techniques, and Falling Techniques (safety), along with the Foundations of Judo.  Advance students are taught detailed technical Judo development skills, physical fitness conditioning and training as well as the Foundations of Judo.  Advance Instructions are based on the concepts of Olympic Development Judo preparation for competition at the local, regional, national and international levels.

The primary Mission of the HTIC Club Judo program is to aid in the development of high school, collegiate and senior level Judo players of the State of Hawaii, Pacific Islands, the US Mainland and through out the International Community. The primary goal of this program is to train and develop competitive Judo players to represent the United States (U.S.A) on the National and International competitive levels as well to develop the whole person.  HTIC teaches and trains in the art and sport of Kodokan Judo.    

Dojo Location and contacts:
The HTIC Judo Dojo is located on the 6th floor of the Tokai University Pacific Center Building.  The dojo is equipped with custom Mizuno Judo mats, fully air conditioned and overlooks the Ala Wai Canal and Waikiki.

Practice Schedule:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Sunday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Advance Training Practice)
*Saturdays 10:00 to 12:00 noon (as scheduled)*

All are nationally certified instructors and coaches as well as former national & international competitors.

Affiliations:
HTIC Judo Club is a member of the United States Judo Inc. (USA Judo), United State Judo Federation (USJF), 50th State Judo Association, Hawaii Judo Inc., and Tokai Educational System.

Cost:
The HTIC Judo Club is a member of the Associated Student Body Activities Organization at Hawaii Tokai International College.  The primary purpose of the HTIC Judo Club is to serve college students; due to this premise there is a difference in fee structure for HTIC students and Non-HTIC students.

HTIC students
All HTIC students are eligible to join the Judo club.  Club membership is paid per quarter term (three months) to the college as part of student activity fees.  HTIC students who wish to practice or take part in competition or other judo activities outside of HTIC sponsored activities are required to become a member of the United States Judo Federation (USJF) and or United States Judo Inc. (USA Judo).  This requirement is for membership liability and insurance purposes. 

Non-HTIC Students, Staff /Faculty and Community members
All non-HTIC students are welcome to join the HTIC Judo Club.  Fee is $25 per quarter term (three months) fee includes (activity fee, parking and Judo Club fee).  HTIC staff / faculty family members are included in this category.  Anyone who is 13 years of age or older is welcome to join the HTIC Judo Club.  All Non-HTIC students are required to become members of the USJF and or USA Judo.  This is required for membership liability and insurance purposes. 

Visitors of other Judo clubs
All visitors (including members of other local, national or international Judo clubs) to the  HTIC Judo Club are welcome to join our practices.  All such players must have a current valid membership with one the US National Organizations or International Organizations.  This is required for liability and insurance purposes by the regional and national Judo associations as well as the College.    There are no fees to for visitors to practice at the HTIC Judo Club; however there is a parking fee to park on campus.  

Levels of experience:
All levels of Judo experience or inexperience are welcome.  Beginner’s can start class each new academic term.  Advance Judo players can join the HTIC Judo Club practices at any time throughout the year.

Parking:
There is a $2 (per day) charge for parking on the HTIC campus.  Monthly or quarterly parking permits can be purchased at discounted rate.  Regular Non-HTIC student members parking fee are included in quarterly cost of Judo Club membership.

Judo-gi (uniforms):
Judo uniforms are available for rent ($20 non-refundable) depending on condition of uniform upon return).  However, we highly recommend that each individual purchase their own uniform.  All rental Judo uniforms must be returned to the HTIC Judo Club in good condition.

HTIC Judo Club hosts a variety of programs in the Hawaii Judo Community such as the following:

  • Elite Athlete Competition Training Program
  • Athlete Development Clinics and Seminars
  • Coaches Development Clinics and Seminars
  • Parent, Coach, & Athlete Education Seminars

All registered active club members can participate in all HTIC Judo Club hosted activities free of charge.

Training and Study Opportunities in Japan
HTIC Judo program provides opportunities to train and study in Japan as a member of the Tokai Educational System.  Opportunities are available at any of the Tokai University System campuses throughout Japan.  Students can study at International Budo University (IBU) as well as Tokai University Shonan (Main) Campus or Tokai affiliated high schools.  This program is available to High School and Collegiate students.
