Leeward Judo Club

Club History

Leeward Judo Club was established in 1984 by Tsuruo Fukushima.  Fukushima Sensei Retired from Civil Service in Okinawa, Where he built the most powerful Non-Japanese club, Even winning a prestigious team event amongst many Japan Clubs.  He developed more than a hundred students to the rank of black belt or higher.  One of his best students, Kevin Asano, represented the United States in the 1988 Olympics and won the silver medal.  Many of his other students have won National Championships and a few have represented the United States in International Competition.  Leeward Judo Club practices in the cafeteria of Pearl City High School who have been very gracious in helping to build solid citizens fo Hawaii given focus, discipline, and self-confidence through training and inspiration of Judo.
